The Room Board, worked through.

Keep the pieces you love. Find what brings them together.

Laura plans the colours, layout and finishing touches, starting from what you own. Here is one room, and what she would look at in it.

Press the room.

Five places, each with what Laura would look at there and which way in covers it.

The living room rearranged: the green sofa against the back wall with clay and ochre cushions, a larger jute rug under the coffee table, the armchair and floor lamp as a reading corner by the window, two prints on the ledge and the wall by the window painted sage.

  1. It stays. A good sofa sets the colours for everything else, so the plan starts from it.

Covered by: Room Refresh, £195, or the Room Board, £175.

  2. Size first: a rug large enough to sit under the front legs of the seating pulls the room together. Then the texture.

Covered by: the Room Board's shopping list, from any shops, at your budget.

  3. Three samples became one colour, read by morning and by lamp light before anything was bought.

Covered by: a Colour Plan, £45, by video, or a Colour Visit, £95, at home.

  4. Moved beside the armchair, the floor lamp makes a reading corner, and gives the room its evening light.

Covered by: Room Refresh, £195: what you own, moved first.

  5. An empty picture ledge, waiting since the move. Two prints from an independent maker, and room left to add.

Covered by: the Room Board, with the prints on its list.

Travel is explained beside the prices once Laura sets it.

Press a number on the room, or a name here. On a keyboard, the arrow keys move between the five.

More than a pretty picture.

Three things you can work from, for one room, at your budget, from any shops.
